 Not wearing Mountain Khakis, but still looking good!  MK ambassador, Shelby Free was invited to open the Southeastern Wildlife Expo's black-tie art auction held on February 21st in Charleston, SC.

Team Mountain Khakis shares their weekend successes.

See an excerpt from Team MK: “This past weekend we raced on two fronts; the young riders raced in regional events in the Southeast and the more experienced team began our national campaign in California.

Under the direction of Pat Raines, with mentoring from Adam Myerson, the youngsters scored a second place with Logan Loader at the Blythwood Criterium in Colombia, SC, behind journeyman sprinter Emile Abraham.  The next day at the Forest Acres Criterium (also in Colombia), Isaac Howe scored his first win of the year in front of experienced international riders Emile Abraham and Thad Dulin.  These are great results from the new Team MK riders whose average age is 20 years!

TMK's new Director, Jason Snow, entered the "A" squad in the Tour of Murrieta against Floyd Landis and Team OUCH, as well as other top teams coming off of the Tour of California.  Expecting a "trial by fire" we were surprised by how well the guys performed coming directly off of only winter training.  In Stage One, Tom Soladay made the day long break with eventual winner Chad Beyer (BMC) and in Stage Two, Eric Barlevav broke into the top ten showing that he is gaining speed and is soon to be in top form.

This weekend the team will race the San Dimas Stage Race in San Dimas, CA and the Uptown Greenville Criterium in Greenville, NC."

3rd Annual Fly Fishing Tour comes to Charlotte, NC

The Fly Fishing Film Tour comes to Charlotte for the second year in a row with a March 18^thshowing at the Visulite Theater on Elizabeth Ave.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the first of the seven short films beginning at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $15.

 

The Fly Fishing Film Tour includes short films from the industries finest filmmakers and production companies.  This year’s lineup of films offers a truly global experience, showcasing footage shot in Papua New Guinea, Russia, New Zealand, Belize, India, as well as domestic waters from California and Colorado to Southern Louisiana and the Florida Keys.

 

The Charlotte showing is being sponsored by longtime area outfitter and fly fishing equipment retailer, Jesse Brown’s Outdoors.  They are also a loyal MK dealer.

Bill Bartee, owner of Jesse Browns, & Don Yager, co-hosts of WBT’s (1110 AM, 99.3 FM) Carolina Outdoor radio program, will emcee the event.  There will be prizes & gifts from Jesse Brown’s, Mountain Khakis & others between each of the short movie showings.

The Drake Fly Fishing Film Fest

 

The Drake Fly Fishing Film Fest, sponsored by The Drake magazine, Sage Fly Rods, Scientific Anglers and Patagonia among others, is touring the country this spring, showcasing the cutting edge of fly fishing films. The festival will be playing in Jackson, at the Teton Theater on Thursday, March 19th, with 2 shows - the first showing is at 7pm and the second showing at 9:30pm. There will also be a pre-show party at High Country Flies (around the corner from the theater) with beer from Snake River Brewing and appetizers, starting at 5pm.

Tickets for the festival are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for children

MK Ambassador, Brian Dean, take his MKs everywhere

Brian Dean tells us where he and his MKs have gone this winter.

Residency is keeping me busy; regardless, I have had a bit of fun this winter.   From shooting sporting clays with other orthopedic surgery residents, to a late season pheasant hunt in NE Missouri, my MKs have kept me warm and protected me from briars and barbed wire.  This past weekend I was privileged to be part of the very well qualified orthopedic surgery staff that was able to help keep the cowboys of the Professional Bull Riders (

pbrnow.com) riding while they were in St Louis.  My OMPs got me a few compliments from the men and more than a few glances from the ladies. Thanks again to you guys for making such a well-tailored yet always practical product.

Past and future with 16 year-old Ben Peters, an MK Ambassador

 Ben Peters tells of his recent MSRL Championship race and what is ahead for his spring season.

With the conclusion of the MSRL Championship last weekend, my downhill ski racing season has come to an end.  The race was in Afton Alps, MN and I placed 4^th in the 15 to 18yr old group. I also earned the nickname “Bode” for the craziest recoveries and sweet runs.  I guess going all out on your runs can work to your advantage.  The conditions were typical of a race day in the Midwest, about 4 inches of fresh snow, whipping wind, ruts galore and pure ice on most turns.  Over all, it was a good year of racing minus some injury and training setbacks. I look forward to going out and free skiing until all the snow melts and the rivers start roaring!

As for this spring/summer, I have been training all winter in the weight room to prep for kayaking.   I am heading down to the National Junior Slalom Team Trials and the US Open on March 26^th.   I will be training at Nantahala, North Carolina where both races will be held.  If I make the team I will be competing in France for Junior World Championships!  I will give it my all and hope for the best outcome. I will also get home just in time for the creeks to be running.  Should be a great spring for paddling!
