“I've hiked many mountains in my life, but I always keep coming back to the one in my hometown: Ragged Mountain. It's only 761ft. tall - but in 20 years I don't think I've hiked the same trail twice - it's just that epic. It's part of the Metacomet Ridge which just spans throughout the state, and is completely breathtaking any season of the year...secret: It's also one of the best climbing areas in Connecticut.
Sadly, in the past couple of years, it's gotten trashed... I mean trashed! People have just gone there and dumped garbage, and glass, etc everywhere up there. It had gotten so bad that people just stopped hiking the mountain; I even felt myself moving away from it to hike other places that were better kept.
But I didn't. Instead I started bringing a trash bag with me to clean the place up as I hiked.
I also wrote a letter to my local paper - expressing my disgust, and urging people to do the same.
Now, I hadn't been there since the end of September (right around when I wrote the letter), but I went back last week...and there wasn't one McDonald's wrapper... Not one broken bottle....It was immaculate!
SO…I wanted to share some pictures. Enjoy what I enjoyed.”
