Mountain Gazette is an outdoor publication with the goal "to capture the literature of the mountains, to illustrate the qualities and expose the quagmires of a hard-to-define emerging ethic/lifestyle that is part traditional, part new." We think they do a great job meeting that well-defined goal. Below is a review we recently received in the Gear-o-rama section. Double-click to enlarge.

On Friday we received the exciting news from Polartec - Mountain Sprouts is the winner of not one, but 2 Polartec Apex Awards for 2008. This year's Sprouts winners are the Rogue Softshell Jacket and the Signature Mitts & Booties Gift Set.
The APEX Award Criteria: products are measured against their intended end-use and judged on a) innovation and versatility b) functionality, fit and comfort, performance and wear c) aesthetics.
Mountain Sprouts has now won 4 APEX Awards, including one in 2005 and one in 2007. Other companies that won in 2007 include Arcteryx, Burton, Cloudveil, Marmot, Patagonia and more.
For those who do not know, Mountain Khakis is the parent company of Mountain Sprouts, which is a member of the MK Family of Brands. Stay tuned for more on that. Congratulations to Mountain Sprouts!
DNR Magazine, a weekly publication and industry leader for men's fashion and trends, recently featured a full article on Mountain Khakis in their February 11th issue. The article includes a brief history of the brand as well as mentioning that MK has branched out from an outdoor-exclusive brand to one that is fully capable of selling in the boutique channel and more traditional retailers. A testament to the versatility of MKs. Below is a clip of the article.
We are excited to announce that Mountain Khakis will launch a brand new style for men in early March. The Lake Lodge Twills will be our third distinct offering in the twill category, and will feature the lightest weight fabric in our product line. The Lake Lodge will be the perfect choice for the warm days of spring and summer. Made from MK custom 6.3 ounce twill with 2% Lycra, the Lake Lodge line is perfect for vacations to warm destinations, a day on the golf course, or really any time where a lighter material is preferred. The Lycra provides ample stretch that we know you will love, making the pants and shorts more comfortable and adding to the degree of mobility you receive. Of course, standard MK features such as triple-stitching, a riveted metal button, a hidden pocket and reinforced cuffs won't be left out.
The Lake Lodge Twill will be offered in pants and shorts, and will include Navy (shown) and Classic Khaki. Keep an eye out in the future for a Women's Lake Lodge Twill short.
Mountain Khakis will be launching a few new styles this Spring, with one of them being the shorts version of our popular Cottonwood Corduroys. The Cord Shorts are a nod to classic coastal surfer style - they make a pretty durable pair for mountain lifestyle pursuits as well. The shorts will feature an 11 inch rise and a 10 inch inseam, a full cut leg and diamond gusset. The fabric is 10 ounce 11 wale, 97% cotton with 3% Lycra. That's right, the Lycra provides a degree of stretch that adds immensely to the comfort and mobility of the shorts. Of course, they will also contain standard MK features such as triple stitching, bar tacks in stress areas and a hidden pocket on the right front side. Look for the Cord Shorts in early March.
Mountain Khakis had a very successful show last week in Salt Lake City at Outdoor Retailer. Our Original Mountain Jean went over well and we now expect that it will fully sell through in early Fall 2008. The Mountain Sprouts and MK Kids offerings were also very well received.
The show seemed to be less attended this year than in past years, likely due to weaknesses in the economy and stress in the specialty retailer sector.
We are thrilled to announce that the MK Drinking Team had a crushing win in the Gelande Quaffing event, versus teams from Cloudveil and Smith Optics. Just one of the many activities we do well!
And finally, the Avalaunch concert featuring Michael Franti and Spearhead was excellent!
When I first met Kendall Card at the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City, I was bummed to see how tall he was. It was during our first show at winter market and we didn't yet make the 36" inseam that I knew he would need to avoid sporting a pair of MK man-pris.
After making do with a 34" inseam (must have been his construction pair) and then checking out the 36", his recent review of the Original Mountain Pant on feedthehabit.com is a pretty honest take on the durability and addictive comfort of a pair of MKs. We've re-addressed the wrinkling issue with a different weave process in our custom cotton canvas, but drying 100% cotton on HOT is always sure to create an interesting topography.
Kendall continues his continued dominance of social media in his recent job change - hope we'll be seeing him 'round Jackson a little more now.

Mountain Khakis recently donated a ski weekend in Jackson Hole and 6 pairs of Mountain Khakis to an auction to benefit 1% For The Planet.
1% For The Planet is a growing global movement of nearly 800 companies that donate 1% of their sales to a network of more than 1,500 environmental organizations worldwide. Mountain Khakis is a member and supporter.
The winning bidders, Ben Muldrew and his wife Ulli Heregger, live in Boston. We asked Ben to write a quick post after he won the auction...
Hey everyone. We're excited to be the winning bidders on the 1% FTP/Mountain Khakis auction. It's really a good cause, and since we've never been to Jackson Hole, we thought this would be a perfect excuse to get out there this winter and make some turns. We're also excited to get our first pairs of Mountain Khakis and start putting them to work. And while we probably won't test the durability too much in downtown Boston, we spend as much time as we can outdoors here in the northeast, backpacking in the summer and skiing and snowboarding in the winter. (If anyone ever needs recommendations out this way, drop me a line at bmuldrew@gmail.com. I'm happy to point you towards some of the best hiking trails in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The skiing and riding...well, you're probably better off out west).
Just can't get enough of Mountain Khakis can you? We understand, and to help with that problem, we would like you to explore our various profiles and photographs across the world wide web.

The Picking Line.
Pants, pants, pants.
We are excited to announce that our Original Mountain Pant is now offered in Granite. The new offer is a perfect complement to our existing colors and provides a nice variety to your wardrobe. Get them while they're hot...what a perfect holiday gift idea!

Some recent publicity highlights the Teton Twills from Mountain Khakis as the perfect pair of durable khakis for foul-weather golfing, scottish-inspired courses or those with a tendency to search for balls in the rough...
Resort Sports Network included them in their Summer Golf Gear round-up (at minute 1:30):
And Golf Illustrated ranked them "tough as a 2 dollar steak" - a comparison we don't have much experience with out here in cattle country:
Thanks to our friends at Backcountry.com for pointing this bad-boy out. In the words of MK Marketing Manager Shannon Hamby, "File this one under why didn't we think of that?" Also may file this one in the same category as 'Manpris'... cut for those too hot to wear pants but too cool to wear shorts.
Story on the newest, manliest (?) fashion in workwear HERE.
A group of our ladyfriends here in Jackson Hole, a group of women committed to the passionate pursuit of outdoor recreation, have developed a pretty cool website for similar-minded ladies: womenspecific.com
The site gathers info on everything from female-specific gear to ladies-only camps and trip reports. The newest addition to the site is a gear review forum open to the public. A great idea, I know I am often influenced (and entertained) by the detailed product write-ups at Backcountry.com when shopping.
The Womenspecific.com reviews have just been created, but if you are a fan of an MK style and want to share the love, this is a great place to do so. Start here: womenspecific.com product reviews.
